Known for playing a broad mixture of styles during his live performances, James Derrickson (aka: The J. Derrickson Project) realized that he had a fast growing love for the Blues, in particular. While playing bass in a three piece Blues band for 3 years back around 2000, he took his first stab at composing Blues tunes, and quickly recognized that it came fairly easy for him. After releasing two R&B CD’s in 2003 and 2007, James decided the time was right to fulfill a dream of composing and recording an all-original Blues album. A year-and-a-half making, “The Blues In Me” was recently released and has garnered tremendous critical acclaim and airplay. (more…)

Funeral arrangements and donation information

for “Mr. Tater, The Music Maker” (Foster Wiley)

“Mr. Tater, The Music Maker” passed away early Friday morning in Memphis; funeral arrangements have been made; donations are being sought by family to cover funeral expenses

Hailed as one of the last Mississippi Delta street musicians and a favorite of visiting tourists from around the world, Foster Wiley a.k.a. “Mr Tater, The Music Maker” passed away early Friday morning, September 10, at the Methodist University Hospital in Memphis — according to his brothers Joshua and Joe Wiley. Foster Wiley had been in the Intensive Care Unit for over a week with kidney and other issues.

Affectionately called “Mr. Tater” by his fans, Foster Wiley was known for his daily street performances in downtown Clarksdale as well as his late night jams at blues venues like Ground Zero Blues Club, Red’s Lounge and Club 2000. His name or image often appeared in both national and international media circles, including such iconic news outlets as The New York Times, BBC, CNN, CBS and NPR. He was a regular act at local blues festivals, recorded approximately a dozen albums and was featured in a handful of documentaries.

Chris Antonik - Chris Antonik

The debut solo album from Toronto guitarist Chris Antonik is a diverse, soulful and tightly executed blend of classic guitar blues and original, innovative, contemporary blues-rock. After thrilling audiences in Toronto blues clubs as a sideman, Antonik has stepped out on his own to deliver this self-produced collection of original material and two classic blues covers.

The album “Chris Antonik” is a portrait of a maturing blues guitarist and songwriter who fully grasps the importance of song over solo – while still leaving plenty for guitar fans to enjoy. The songs deal with repairing relationships and giving back to those around you, as well as classic blues themes delivered in modern vehicles. (more…)
