Ballet Featuring White Stripes Songs Coming to Canada November 15, 2010

TORONTO — When British composer Joby Talbot set out to adapt the White Stripes’ stripped-down garage-blues tunes for the grandeur of a full orchestra, he felt he first needed the blessing of the Detroit duo’s frontman Jack White.

If White — famously fastidious about every esthetic detail of his band’s sound and look — didn’t approve of the idea, it would be bound for the “dust bin.”

So Talbot was understandably nervous when XL recordings honcho Richard Russell played a couple of Talbot’s preliminary tracks for White while the band was on tour.

Legendary song stylist Bobby Caldwell (www.bobbycaldwell.com), best known for the smash hit “What You Won’t Do For Love,” announced today that he will return to the stage on January 29, 2011, for two shows, 7:30 p.m. and 10 p.m., at the B.B. King Blues Club & Grill.

“I consider Bobby Caldwell’s return a re-introduction to one of the great soul/jazz singers of our time,” says Chris Rizik, music critic and founder of the online music magazine Soul Tracks. “He is a versatile vocalist who can handle Sinatra as well as Stevie Wonder, the artist he was most often compared to in his early years. His performances provide an excellent take on some of the great songs of the 1940s and 1950s.”

In November of 2010 Home Grown Music Network welcomed the group Sol & Funk Root to it’s roster. Sol & Funk Root is described as roots rock and funky blues delivered with deep soul. Sol has performed around the world with musical heavyweights.

Home Grown Music Network is a network of independent bands, representatives, venues, stores, fans, and businesses working together to make the independent music scene stronger. This grassroots network of over 75 bands and 400 representatives spreads every publication far & wide. These publications reach customers in all 50 states and many foreign countries including: Italy, Japan, Spain, Canada, Denmark, Switzerland, England, Germany, Belgium, Austrailia, Brazil & more.

Stan Davis, the Gregarious Owner of Lee’s Unleaded Blues Passes November 15, 2010

Stan Davis, the gregarious owner of Lee’s Unleaded Blues, a favorite haunt of the Chicago Blues Tour, has passed on. He fell to cardiac arrest Friday, November 12. We send our condolences to his family and many, many friends, and will always remember him fondly.

King Museum and Delta Interpretive Center will welcome acclaimed photographer Ken Murphy and Oxford-based blues writer Scott Barretta this Friday, November 19th to share their new book Mississippi: State of Blues. The reading will take place at 5:30 p.m. with a signing/reception to follow.

Steve & Jeff Simon and Radio Woodstock will present BLUESTOCK 2011, a major 3-day Blues festival featuring top Blues artists at Hunter Mountain Ski Center over the weekend of August 26th, 2011.

BLUESTOCK 2011 will be a mega-Blues event bringing together a wide variety of great performers that represent all aspects of Blues music. The line-up of talent will read like a veritable “who’s who” of Blues and Blues-rock legends and up-and-coming stars.

At the first annual BLUESTOCK, there will be two stages that will provide non-stop music throughout the weekend with an amazing all-star Blues jam on Friday and Saturday nights and a late night “Blues Club” that will keep the music going well into early morning hours.
