Woodland, CA–The City of Davis Community Services Department is proud to present a “Blues Festival” at the Veterans Memorial Theatre on Sunday at noon.

Come out and enjoy local artists including the Blue Blazes, Riff Nimble & the Neighbors, and the Hucklebucks as they bring the house down at the Veterans Memorial Theatre.

Blue Blazes will be serving up a tasty blend of ’50s and ’60s rockabilly tunes and blues standards with an occasional surf instrumental thrown in.

This trio of veteran players consists of Dave Atkinson on lead guitar and vocals, Gary Meyer playing old style stand-up bass and backing vocals, and Chuck O’Bear on the drums and lead/backing vocals. Covering great rockabilly songs from the early ’50s by Gene Vincent, Carl Perkins and Eddie Cochran, this band will have the house jumping.
Blue Blazes also lays down some soulful Blues from the likes of Muddy Waters and the Fabulous Thunderbirds. It all adds up to a blend of some of greatest musical styles to come from the USA that will have you screaming for more!

Riff Nimble & the Neighbors will deliver a deep blues repertoire with a classic, rock flair. Eminently entertaining front man “Riff Nimble” is a blues guitar dynamo. Bassist “Sideshow Christopher” and drummer “Dr. Funks-a-Lot” propel the tunes from slow and soulful to over the top. The groove deepens with the addition of Ken Weinstock on organ and piano.

The Hucklebucks are the next generation in a long tradition of the Blues. Their music was born in the south, left New Orleans for Chicago, swung through Kansas City, shuffled through Texas and emerged on the California party scene with a groovy, danceable beat.

Advance tickets on sale now at the Community Services Office at City Hall, Armadillo Music, Avid Reader, Dimple Record. If the show is not sold-out, tickets will be available at the door for $10 per person.
