That first note on that guitar sets the mood. You anticipate what’s about to happen, but you really can’t describe what your body goes through while the anticipation builds and you begin to sweat – your heart begins to beat faster. Then, at that very moment, you hear that guitar sing to you, in that deep drawl style. Your heart begins to slow and keep tempo with that signature sound called the Blues. This is Caron ‘Sugaray” Rayford. This is what his audience goes through right from the start. It’s a sound that is his own. It’s a sound that can’t be denied. It’s a sound that only HE can deliver. To understand Caron ‘Sugaray’ Rayford, you would need to go back to the beginning to better understand who he is today.

Sugaray was born in Texas. His musical career began at the age of 7 years old singing and playing drums in church. He was influenced by gospel music right from the beginning. He was one of three boys in a household where his mother struggled with battling cancer. After her passing, the three boys moved in with their grandmother where they experienced a better life. They had food every day and went to church every day.

In 1997, after being released from the Marines, he returned to music in a big and very different way. He became a founding member and front man/lead vocalist for San Diego R & B band called Urban Gypsys. In 2004 he joined blues band Aunt Kizzy’z Boyz, which he still performs with.

When he moved to Los Angeles, his solo career began to blossom. He ran Los Angeles’ most successful blues jam from 2008-2010 at Cozy’s until Cozy’s was sold in July, 2010. He had shared the stage with many top musicians such as Al Kooper, Vivan Campbell, Kal David, Slash (Guns ‘n Roses), Gerald Johnson, Venice and Dennis Quaid, and Jim Carey (the actor) to name just a few. He uses a mixture of many top musicians when he performs.

His new single, “I Let Love Slip Thru My Fingers” is off of his new CD, “Blind Alley”. “This song was written by my friend Mr. Al Kooper”, states Caron. “He gave me a disc of unrecorded songs he had written and told me I could choose any of them to record. This was one of two that I had selected”. Highlighting is vocal abilities; Sugaray brings emotion and drama into this ballad. It is a powerful and poignant song which is very typical of his style of music and type of delivery. This song’s theme is about having someone or something important slip through your fingers at point in your life. It is a very relatable song, very memorable and has sustainability in this music industry.

“Blind Alley” is his first solo CD and is available both in its physical format along with digital. You can listen to and/or purchase his music, past or present, by logging onto any of the following websites along with additional iStores availability:
