JACKSON, Miss.— Organizers of the 4th Annual Mississippi Blues Marathon and Half-Marathon announced today that they have confirmed a partnership with Elvis Presley Enterprises. The 2011 race will take place on January 8th, Elvis Presley’s 76th birthday, and thanks to this agreement, the event is sure to be a hunk, a hunk of Elvis fun!

Chicago, IL – Dot-to-Dot Management, the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and the Serbian Cultural Arts Center of Chicago will present the groundbreaking Chicago Guitar Festival, a weeklong event bringing renowned classical and jazz guitarists from around the world to venues across Chicago, from Thursday October 7th through Thursday, October 14h. Featuring performances by artists as diverse as Pat Martino, Paul Galbraith and Badi Assad, the Festival was conceived by Chicagoans (and accomplished guitarists themselves) Andreas Kapsalis and Goran Ivanovic, who aim to enrich the pallet of the area’s listening audiences. Known for playing a broad mixture of styles during his live performances, James Derrickson (aka: The J. Derrickson Project) realized that he had a fast growing love for the Blues, in particular. While playing bass in a three piece Blues band for 3 years back around 2000, he took his first stab at composing Blues tunes, and quickly recognized that it came fairly easy for him. After releasing two R&B CD’s in 2003 and 2007, James decided the time was right to fulfill a dream of composing and recording an all-original Blues album. A year-and-a-half making, “The Blues In Me” was recently released and has garnered tremendous critical acclaim and airplay. (more…)

Trombone Shorty Added to Final Dates of Dave Matthews  Band Tour


LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews’ media profile continues to explode with several national television performances in recent and coming weeks. Included are a featured appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live on September 23, a special guest spot with Ricky Minor and The Tonight Show band on September 30, and nation-wide airing of PBS’ Austin City Limits on October 23. The 24-year-old funk/rock star who burst onto the national scene with his Backatown debut (released April 20 on Verve Forecast), recently made his late night debut on the Late Show with David Letterman and played a recurring role as himself on HBO’s hit New Orleans drama Tremé. His song “Hurricane Season” can be heard weekly on MTV’s The Real World, New Orleans as the opening title song.

DEAD CELLO LIVES! September 13, 2010

Von Cello has finally done it! He created a solo cello suite based on the music of the Grateful Dead and it has just been published! This is the first time the Grateful Dead’s music has been made available as sheet music for performance by a solo instrument in a classical style. Alan Trist, the Dead’s publisher told Aaron Minsky (Von Cello), “There is more to come in this field and you have paved the way”.
