Out of close to 75 OZ & NZ bands or solo artists who were invited to showcase at the world’s largest, longest-running and most prestigious music festival and global industry conference, 36 Australian and 15 New Zealand artists have accepted their invitations to rock out at South by Southwest Music Festival & Conferences in Austin, Texas March 17-21 2010.

Over 300 bands from the two AustralAsian countries applied as did more than 10,000 from 49 countries, all vying for 1800 individual one-hour showcase slots at 88 venues in “The Live Music Capital of The World”. More than 250 OZ & NZ delegates will also attend among 15,000 music industry professionals from around the world. It will be the largest number of artists and also music business pros in the US from both countries at any one time.

Through export strategies of AUSTRADE and the New Zealand Music Commission over the past eight years–with trade fair stands, special parties and barbecues, advertising and marketing assistance as well as travel subsidies–the outcomes have been hugely successful in export impact of bands playing before major and indie record labels, agents, promoters, film music scouts and over 1200 media–all hungry to find the ‘Next New Thing’.

Here’s the next wave of the Antipodean Invasion in just two months time.

Interview Program Uses A New Approach to Engage Artists, Hosts and Listeners

It happens on Sunday Brunch: The First and Last Song, a new blog talk radio program produced by Creator’s Parrot channel featuring conversations with and the music of a variety of celebrity and independent musicians, songwriters, plus other music industry professionals.

The series will celebrate music artists and the universal vibrational language of music as a creative healing force.

Host and producer, Valerie Michele Oliver, views Sunday Brunch: The First and Last Song as a way to work in a complementary fashion with music artists, music publicists, and other music radio and blog talk radio hosts through their participation as either interview guests or guest co-hosts.

There’s increased opportunity to discover new artists and new fans across programs when hosts let their listeners know they will be co-hosting an episode of Sunday Brunch: The First and Last Song. The artists have an opportunity to get booked on a co-host’s show in the future.” Guest co-hosts may be from any industry area as long as they have a passion for music and supporting artists.

Neil Alexander, musician, songwriter, producer, former keyboardist for the Pink Floyed Tribute band, The Machine, and leader of the jazz/fusion/ambient/funk/electronica band, NAIL, has joined as a co-host. Val shared the idea of co-hosting a show called, “The Last Song” with him and Neil thought it was way too morbid. Guests have begun to register to be booked for the show including Georgie Porgie (Billboard magazine’s choice for one of the Top 10 Dance/Club Play Artists of the Decade); EJ Flavors and Doug Ramsay (Mr. Fresh), two of the official bloggers for the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards in the R&B and Jazz categories; Jazz/Nu-Jazz/Gospel Bassist and Author Russel Blake; the cool, golden, and inspirational Jazz vocalist, Elli Fordyce; and a number of other artists representing various genres discovered through IMRadio, ReverbNation, and other music services.

The first person to join as a guest co-host is Jon Hansen, one of the top hosts on Blog Talk Radio. Jon is committed to cross-promotion and featuring more music industry profiles on his show focusing on artists and the business.

This led to her launching a music project to attract artists to produce, arrange, record, share and distribute songs she has written and dedicated as energy to end child abuse and neglect globally through the power of attraction and intent (Reach 4 Freedom: Heal Child Abuse and Neglect). According to Val, “This program is another way to add more power to the Reach 4 Freedom project,” stated Val. “People can support answers and solutions to help end and heal child abuse by participating in or listening to the program. Featured artists, guest co-hosts, and listeners can call into the program switchboard using the telephone number: (347) 202-0238, or may access it Skype-to-Skype by clicking a Skpye icon on the Creator’s Parrot channel page if they have the service. People can listen to the show live from the same page or by dialing the program switchboard number. The program premieres on Sunday, January 17 at 3:00 PM.

The 14th Annual Millennium Music Conference runs February 18-20 at the Radisson Penn Harris Hotel & Convention Center and over thirty showcase venues in and around Harrisburg. Nearly three hundred bands from as close as Camp Hill and as far as Australia are booked to showcase.

The Conference, now in its fourteenth year, features two afternoons of music business panels, clinics, workshops, mentoring sessions and one-of-a-kind industry trade show. Music industry professionals will attend and participate as speakers, mentors, exhibitors and talent scouts. Business sessions of the conference include: Legal Representation for the Up-and-Coming Artist, Creating A Creative Career, Publishing In The Digital Age, Artist Development, Online Music Marketing and Cyber PR. A Songwriting Workshop and panels on Urban Music, Artist Management and Studio Recording & Production are also featured during the daytime events. The afternoon conference events are open to the public and registration is required to attend.

But it’s not all business. The Conference celebrates new music at night with showcase performances by over 270 original bands and artists at local clubs, restaurants and coffee houses throughout the region over the weekend. Nearly every genre of popular music is featured and the local community joins in the celebration of emerging talent, independent artists as all showcase performances are open to the public. “We have performers coming from Japan, Australia, Canada, Denmark, the U.K. and 26 States “, said Conference Director John Harris. “All of the shows at night are open to the public and most are free of charge.”

Not unlike the rest of the business community, the Music Business is experiencing changes and shifts never before seen in its history. The Conference aims to expose all participating artists to the new paradigm in a concise and fun weekend package.
